Transforming the city centre into an adventure playground!

Taking place over one weekend each summer, Cliffhanger is Sheffield’s inner-city festival dedicated to celebrating the great outdoors, with a host of adventure activities spread across the city centre.

Organised by the BMC, the British Bouldering Championships provides headline event for the weekend as the nation’s strongest male and female climbers battle it out on a purpose-built bouldering wall, live on Devonshire Green.

Hundreds of climbing enthusiasts have been known to turn out for the finals of the bouldering championship, which culminates on the Sunday evening.  The competition is often accompanied by a festival atmosphere, with have-a-go climbing walls, trade stalls, live music, as well as street food and bars.

In addition to the bouldering action, Cliffhanger activities take place across the Peace Gardens, Millennium Square, Town Hall Square and Barker’s Pool, with everything from assault courses, zip lines and orienteering to parkour, skateboarding and mountain bike demos.

The two-day event is completely FREE to attend, although there may be a small charge for some of the adventure activities and fairground rides.

Cliffhanger is organised by Sheffield City Council in association with Sheffield BID. The 2022 edition of the festival will take place 27 & 28 August.
