Exciting developments in Kelham Island
Things have been tough for local hospitality businesses and while some have thankfully managed to find a way through, several months without customers has been detrimental to others. Yet despite the challenges, this hasn’t stopped some businesses from looking for daylight and a bright future, especially in Kelham Island and Neepsend.
In fact, there’s so much happening in this area that local insiders This is Kelham have compiled a rundown of all the exciting developments happening over the next few months, as old favourites return and new businesses open up. Here’s what in store…
Starting in Neepsend, some new faces have come to food-hall, Cutlery Works. Joining the likes of favourites Edo Sushi, Bullion, Boozehounds and Konjö amongst many others, Rad Dude Food are now serving up American deli style sandwiches to complement their much loved hot sauce, while Little Dough specialise in wood-fired pizza using local sourced and seasonal ingredients.
Just a couple of doors down from Cutlery Works, Heist Brew Co. are setting up a new brewery and bar, due to open later in the year. Joining the city’s already extensive brewing scene, Heist aren’t messing around with their brewery taproom experience, with plans for it to be the biggest keg beer bar in Sheffield complete with 30 taps and a burger restaurant.
Up the road, towards the former Ski Village site, is Steelyard Kelham Sheffield’s first boxpark. Made up of 56 shipping containers over 2 floors with a central open event space, the yard will be a 1500 capacity venue with a range of places to eat, drink and even stay, complete with Airbnb apartments.
Some of the outlets in the complex have already opened up. Urban Pizza opened at the beginning of lockdown, quickly adapting to offer delivery/takeaways and will be opening their shipping container restaurant very soon. Greek Gods’ Cuisine, Icarus & Apollo and Pellizco have since joined them, bringing their street food trailers to the car park. Rooftop bar, Decks is also opening on Saturday 1 August, to offer exciting cocktails while showcasing some of Sheffield’s best up-and-coming DJs, while new coffee hangout Workhouse Kafe will be following very soon.
It isn’t all about food and drink though, as a new gym is also coming to Neepsend. Steel Physique are ready to open as gyms across the UK reopen on Saturday 25 July, which might come in handy with all the new food to try in the area. Finally for Neepsend, ALT. Burger on Hicks Street, will open later this summer to serve up indulgent plant-based burgers, hot dogs, coconut shakes and sweet treats.
Over in the heart of Kelham Island, The Taphouse Bar have finally opened their doors to the public serving traditional cask ales and freshly cooked food. Later this year, cafe, bar and restaurant Isabellas will be offering an authentic taste of Italy when they open in the building that was formerly The Gatehouse.
One of the biggest developments is by those who know the area all too well. New bar, Factory Floor will be based at 92 Burton Road and is being set up by the team behind Kelham Island’s famous monthly night market, Peddler.
