Make yourself at home

Welcome to Sheffield: The Outdoor City - we'd love to show you around!

Inventive, inclusive, unexpected...

This is who we are. This city – and the people who make it. People who are both down-to-earth and restless. Every day, defining a place that never fails to raise an eyebrow.

A city of makers, past and future. This spirit fuels the collaborative, creative culture that’s unique to Sheffield.

It powers two world-leading universities, a thriving independent scene, the sense of community, the sense of adventure, the famously friendly welcome.

And the Peak District National Park is our backyard. Look around – Sheffield is yours to explore.

Fancy a visit?

Complementary contrasts

Now, more than ever, where you work doesn't determine where you live.

If you're looking for a big city packed full of culture and places to eat and drink, but love the thought of vast green spaces and more outdoor activities than you could think possible, then you might just have met your match.

Add our famously friendly welcome and collaborative communities and you'll be bowled over.

Living in Sheffield

A window to our world

The Outdoor City

The UK's greenest city, where nature and culture intertwine. The historic Peak District National Park and and spiritual home of the country's climbing scene, with downhill mountain biking, road cycling and a hive of activity for kayakers, cavers, walkers and runners of all ability.

Street art

There are a number of street artists who live in Sheffield and make our walls into something beautiful for the city to be proud of. Their variety of styles can be seen here, as well as all over the world - and we have plenty of guest murals painted by artists who have visited Sheffield to create their own mark too.

Headline Events

Some of Sheffield's biggest annual events and festivals are internationally renowned within their own right, attracting audiences from across the globe to the city.

Kelham Island

Kelham Island was named as one of the world's 51 coolest neighbourhoods in 2022 by Time Out. Once the beating heart of industry, Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s oldest manufacturing sites, except nowadays these buildings house everything from indie shopping arcades to microbreweries and galleries.
