"We’ve been part of the South Yorkshire infrastructure for many decades and want to continue contributing to our region. The more initiatives like this, the more we can link with other companies and solve our common issues." - James Harding-Terry, Managing Director, Seven Hills Fabrication
Seven Hills Fabrication (part of Steetley Corner Group) is a subcontract fabrication and laser-cutting specialist. A rapidly growing organisation, it is on a mission to stay at the forefront of advanced technology. A recent significant investment in a new 3D tube laser—a game-changer for the company—proves this commitment.
The firm is moving away from spent fuels and gas as a new era approaches. This is an essential step, but because of high growth, it’s challenging. Knowing the need to invest in the future and learn from other people’s journeys was a driving force behind joining the Energy Challenge. MD James Harding-Terry advocates for more local conversations and initiatives, “Bringing like-minded people together is essential. By collaborating on a shared challenge, we can strengthen the region’s ecosystem.”
The most significant finding was that a machine previously thought to be low energy was anything but. The FourJaw data showed that one compressor left unused overnight was still burning energy. Installing a £50 timer to switch off the compressor was a real-time change, instantly saving 6% of their total energy consumption and £1,200 a month on electricity bills.”
In addition to providing cost and energy savings the Innovation In Action Energy Challenge has further highlighted for Seven Hills Fabrication that they, and all South Yorkshire SMEs, should embrace Industry 4.0 on the journey to net zero.
