11 great drink, food and hotel combinations
So you want a great weekend away with space to do your own thing. But you're always going to want somewhere great to eat, somewhere you know you'll get a good drink with a great atmosphere, and a decent place to kip. The rest is just exploration, but it's good to get the non-negotiables sorted.
We thought we could help with that.
Here are 11 combinations of fantastic drinks + some of the best rated food in the city + accommodation.
They are all based within walking distance of each other (we like to walk in Sheffield), and with as much of an independent feel as possible so you get to experience a bit of our local character.

1. Kelham Island
Factory Floor + V or V + House of Jöro
Drink: Factory Floor
Infusion spirits, their own craft brewery, and a beautifully refurbed old industrial building.
Eat: V or V
Completely meat free restaurant that uses a lot of charring and fusion cooking to plate up things you'd never even think of. Worth it even for the meat eaters out there.
Stay: House of Jöro
A boutique, 4 bed space in the heart of Kelham with a lot of attention to detail.
2. Ecclesall Road / Sharrow Vale
Dark Horse + Tonco + The Sexton's Lodge
A real independent and local experience
Eat: Tonco
Brilliantly inventive food by the some of the nicest folks you'll meet, in a lovely courtyard just off Sharrow Vale Road.
Stay: The Sexton's Lodge
This two-guest property is found inside the Grade II* listed Gatehouse old workers cottage of the Victorian burial ground at Sheffield General Cemetery, which has been transformed into a rustic dream.
3. Victoria Quays
Dorothy Pax + True Loves + Houseboat Hotel
(these three are so close together you can fall from one into the other - just watch out for the water!)
Drink: Dorothy Pax
Great beer, live music, and a beautiful courtyard on the cobbles overlooking the quays.
Eat: True Loves
Right next door, this impeccably designed eatery under the arches is a great spot for local produce, wine, cheese and cocktails.
Stay: Houseboat Hotel
Stumble out the door, maybe pop back in for one or more in the Pax, and crash on the water. Just dry, and warm.
4. Ranmoor
Rising Sun + Rafters + The Florentine
Drink: Rising Sun
The home pub of one of the best rated craft breweries in the country, with a great atmosphere. They have plenty of wine and spirit options too though.
Eat: Rafters
Michelin guide listed food in a converted attic space, prepare your taste buds and get ready for some really creative food.
Stay: The Florentine
Just a short stroll up the hill is The Florentine, with lovely rooms in a building dating back to the 1860s.
5. City Centre
Public + Vero Gusto + KSpace
Drink: Public
The converted toilets beneath the Town Hall now look like a scene from a Wes Anderson film, with some incredibly good cocktails inspired by local produce and themes.
Eat: Vero Gusto
A couple of hundred metres away, on a cobbled street, you'll find this delightful Italian restaurant.
Stay: KSpace @ the Point
A serviced apartment with style, you'll get great views over the city and have brunch options, galleries and shops on your doorstep the next morning.
6. Kelham Island
Saw Grinders Union + Jöro + House of Jöro
Drink: Saw Grinders Union
Yet another refurbished industrial space, but ever so well done. An extensive drinks list and lovely lighting make this a great start to a special evening.
Eat: Jöro
Michelin listed taster menus and elegant wines, but all in an informal setting in a shipping container. Sheffield inventiveness at its best.
Stay: House of Jöro
OK so this is a repeat from the first Kelham suggestion, but it would be rude not to recommend their own beautiful boutique hotel. Plus you can get one of their selected breakfast hampers.
7. Abbeydale Road / Nether Edge
Picture House Social + Bench + The Psalter
Drink: Picture House Social
Underneath the old Abbeydale Picture House theatre is a great drinking spot for cocktails and beers alike, with a nice outdoor decking area and Shuffle Shack if you want to get a game in before you eat...
Eat: Bench
Lovely food in a lovely setting in a lovely leafy neighbourhood. What more could you want?
Stay: The Psalter
Great interior design in cosy rooms, and you can roll down the hill to Sharrow Vale Road for coffees and a walk in Endcliffe Park the next morning.
8. Norfolk Park / Park Hill
South Street Kitchen + 5तारा + Best Western The Quays
Perfect if you're on a bit of a budget
Drink: South Street Kitchen
Start off in Park Hill Flats - brutalist architecture icon and Europes largest Grade II listed building. A small selection of drinks, but a beautiful setting looking across to the city.
Eat: 5तारा
Just on the other side of Park Hill, 5तारा serve cultural and traditional Punjabi cuisine, focussed on their North Indian heritage.
Stay: Best Western Plus the Quays
Overlooking Victoria Quays, you're right in the city centre for any exploring you want to do the next day.
9. Ecclesall Road / Nether Edge
Society + Turnip & Thyme + Brocco on the Park
Drink: Society
A hip, stylish, micro cocktail bar on Ecclesall Road with plenty of aperitif options to start the evening.
Stay: Brocco on the Park
On the edge of Endcliffe Park, this boutique hotel has it all: style, location, and luxury.
10. Crookes
Two Sheds + No Name + The Rutland
Drink: Two Sheds
A proper little neighbourhood micro pub and bottle shop in Crookes sets the mood perfectly.
Eat: No Name
Keeping on the small and local theme, No Name is a small but cosy restaurant serving a very seasonal menu with lots of local produce.
Stay: The Rutland Hotel
The Rutland Hotel is Sheffield's largest independent hotel, with a unique combination of traditional Victorian character and contemporary design.
11. Kelham Island
Piña + Domo + Figtree
Drink: Piña
Mexican themed with great cocktails and a buzzy vibe, you might end up coming back here later on...
Eat: Domo
Family owned, this Sardinian restaurant has lovely interior design, great food, and a really fun crowd.
Stay: Figtree
Just back over the river is this set of serviced apartments, situated off the main streets on a cobbled lane, yet only a short stroll from the Cathedral.
