Great places for Craft Beer fans

As one of the craft brewing capitals of the world, there's a lot of folk in Sheffield who know a thing or two about making, selecting and drinking some of the finest brews - be they sours, stouts, IPAs, APAs or straight up bitters.

If you are unashamedly excited about exploring the world of craft beer, then firstly - you've come to the right place. And secondly - here's a whole load of great places across the city, that should be top of your list for beer exploration.

From brewery tap rooms and traditional pubs to bottle shops with bars and micropubs, all of these places have a great selection of beers on offer, plus their own unique character and atmosphere to go with it...   

Sheffield Tap

A gateway to the city's prolific beer scene, the Tap's bar offers a huge choice of beer sourced from across the globe, plus they even have their own on-site microbrewery “Tapped Brew Co.” brewing weekly, with the latest freshest beer available from their bar.

Hop Hideout

An award-Winning beer shop & tap room, located in Kommune foodhall in the Castlegate area. Run by Jules, who also runs Sheffield Beer Week amongst other ale related events, so you're sure to get expert knowledge and a friendly face.

St Mars of the Desert

The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert was inspired by the earliest “craft breweries” of Europe: that first generation making beers in disused 19th century breweries with a pioneering spirit, unmoving passion and an almost avant-garde creativity. They relocated from Boston, Massachusetts to the city of Sheffield to make this dream a reality and haven’t looked back once.

Shakespeare's

One of Sheffield’s oldest and finest traditional pubs. Still standing from the 1830s, it oozes character and charisma, whilst also offering an excellent selection of real ales, wines and a very fine rum menu to top it off.

The Fat Cat

Renowned for its quality real ales, traditional pub atmosphere and industrial setting, in the heart of Kelham Island.

Pangolin

The Pangolin is a craft beer specialist in Hillsborough that is well loved (and highly rated) by those who know. They have a bottle shop but also a tap room and have a range of wines and spirits to go with the events they frequently put on.

Heist Brew Co.

Heist Brewery have converted this former factory into an airy, bright taproom and bar. With over 30 beers on tap (plus 100 in cans and bottles), wine, spirits and retro soft drinks, arcade games and shuffleboard, plus Slap & Pickle serving up their signature burgers.

Two Thirds

Two Thirds is an independent craft beer bar and bottle shop with 16 rotating craft, draught beer lines from around the world and a giant beer fridge showcasing over 200 bottles & cans.

The Bar Stewards

The Bar Stewards is a small independent craft beer pub in the West Bar area of Sheffield, close to Kelham Island, directly opposite Shakespeare's pub.

The Beer House

Micropub with a capacity for about 40 people across two small rooms. The front room has level access from the street and contains the bar with 6 handpumps with an ever changing range of real ales. A locally brewed draught lager and interesting bottled beer range also feature and quality wines & spirits from the local specialist off licence.

The Rising Sun

This community pub is run by Abbeydale Brewery, one of the best craft and experimental breweries in the country, so you're guaranteed some excellent beer, a really warm (and dog friendly) welcome, and some top-notch grub from their kitchen too.

The Old Workshop

The Old Workshop is a fully vegan bar, with all their beers, wines, cocktails and other drinks suitable for vegans, including a constantly changing guest keg beer list.

Triple Point Brewery & Bar

Triple Point Brewery are a fantastic craft brewery and bar located 5 minutes from the train station. They brew everything on site, have great food provided by The Twisted Burger Company, and a really nice outdoor terrace - meaning it's a buzzy, lively venue that everyone can enjoy.

The Bear

The Bear is a beer emporium on London Road that also doubles as a micro pub come tap room.

Industry Tap

Tap bar and bottle shop, Industry Tap pride themselves on providing a wide variety of excellent craft beers, with 21 lines showcasing rotating guest brews from Sheffield and beyond.

Alder

Alder is a cracking place to hang out. They are a brewery, pub, bar and events space down in Neepsend/Kelham Island, with a unique community spirit, greet beer and friendly vibes.

The Dark Horse

A neighbourhood bar for everyone, serving great beer, wine and cocktails in Banner Cross. They also have vegan burgers and other bites to eat courtesy of Slap & Pickle.

The Rutland Arms

Specialising in fine beers, boozes and tasty, freshly prepared food, The Rutland Arms welcomes everyone and anyone equally to enjoy themselves in good company so long as you adhere to the forbidden music board above the jukebox.

Two Sheds

A proper little neighbourhood micro pub and bottle shop in Crookes.

Beer Engine

Quench your thirst with everything from craft beer, continental lager and real ale to an extensive range of spirits, plus there's meat, veggie and vegan options on the tapas menu.

The Itchy Pig

The Itchy Pig is a great a micropub, with good beer, games and bar snacks. With all this in mind, The Itchy Pig aims to bring you delicious ales from near and far in a place where you can catch up with friends old and new.

The Ale Club

The Ale Club are tap rooms for the Brew Foundation brewery. There's the original one on Ecclesall Road, which also operates as a bottle shop, and a newer one in Fulwood that might just be the smallest pub in Sheffield (did someone say nano pub?). Whichever you fancy, they serve tasty beer in a great atmosphere.

Guzzle

Guzzle is a micro pub nestled in the Woodseats neighbourhood that serves local products including cask and keg beer, lager, gins, wines and prosecco.

Kelham Island Tavern

With carved wooden bar, tiled floors and leafy beer garden, this is a proper pub with a renowned wide range of real ales that changes all the time- so there's always something new to sup.

Jabbarwocky

A DIY independent beer specialist on the busy end of London Road, Jabbarwocky is a bar where you'll find craft beer, cocktails & good spirits.
