Cutlers' Hall

Cutlers' Hall is a Grade II* listed building in Sheffield, England, that is the headquarters of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire. It is located on Church Street, opposite Sheffield Cathedral, in Sheffield City Centre.

The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1624, and in 1638 the Company bought a piece of land on Church Street and built their first hall.

In 1832, the present Cutlers’ Hall, the third on this site, was built following the demolition of the second Hall.

It was designed by two architects, Samuel Worth and Benjamin Broomhead Taylor, who had both submitted plans, but when the Company was unable to choose between these plans, the two architects agreed to work together.

In 1867, the Hall was extended to the rear, with the addition of the Large Banqueting Hall on the first floor with the Hadfield Hall beneath and in 1888, the frontage was extended westward.

Nowadays, Cutlers' Hall operates predominantly as an event venue, providing a magnificent and unique backdrop for many conferences, weddings and social gatherings.

Guided tours are available but have to be booked in advance and last roughly 1 hour 15 minutes.

They are conducted by the Beadle, the deputy Beadle or the Archivist and although there are a number of stairs in the Hall, the tour is accessible to people with disabilities.

Tours, with a choice of refreshments, can be booked for times between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday,  but as the Hall is used for a variety of other functions, some days may not be available.
