The home of Sheffield's visual art collection since 1934, the Graves Gallery is located on the third floor of Sheffield Central Library and includes works by notable artists such as Cezanne, Burne-Jones, Turner, Bridget Riley, Grayson Perry and Damien Hirst.
From its art deco frontage, to the polished brass bannisters and golden oak floors, Graves Gallery is a classic art gallery experience and visitors often appreciate the soothing, contemplative ambience of the Gallery – a creative haven away from the bustle of the street below.

Though the Millennium Gallery (just across the road) now receives larger exhibitions, the Graves still plays an important role both as the primary home of Sheffield’s visual art collection and as host to significant touring shows.
Exhibition highlights over the years have included William Blake, Leonardo da Vinci, and photography from Angus McBain, Robert Mapplethorpe and Tom Hunter.
Following an initial period of refurbishment and redisplay, the Graves Gallery reopened in September 2021, as part of a five-year programme of change and improvement generously supported by the Ampersand Foundation.
