Indie scene in Heeley & Meersbrook

Community spaces, boutique bars and panoramic views

Another couple of neighbourhoods that blend into each other, each featuring fantastic parks and great community spirits. Meersbrook Park has unparalleled views of the city, and is a great example of terraced housing in the tradition with which northern cities have become synonymous.

Meanwhile Heeley People’s Park is a phenomenal testament to the Heeley Development Trust and the restorative work communities can bring to places. Yet again, great establishments abound, including the Tram Shed, the Sheaf View and Brothers Arms - keeping residents and visitors alike fed and watered.

A Different Gear

A Different Gear are an independent, not for profit, community-owned bike shop and workshop based in Heeley. They sell new bikes and accessories with a focus on adventure, utility and cargo.  As well as selling new bikes and accessories they also take in donated bikes, strip them down and refurbish them. They are then resold for a fraction of the price of a new bike. Prices in the shop are affordable, with decent adult bikes starting at £120. There's usually a good selection for kids too, meaning you can kit out the whole family.

Heeley City Farm

Environment in action for all the family! Wind and sun powered city farm and education centre with friendly farm animals, relaxing herb, wildlife and organic gardens. Children's playground and adjoining park with Sheffield's largest climbing boulder. Healthy eating café, peat-free garden centre, toilets, recycling facilities, disabled access and more.

The Tramshed

A cosy neighbourhood bar and kitchen in Meersbrook serving craft beer, cocktails and wine with a lovely beer garden at the back.

Kopi & Chai

Kopi & Chai are a friendly and colourful cafe hub in Meersbrook. As well as their stunning interior, they have a gorgeous sun trap corner outside where you can watch the world go by. They serve hot and cold savoury treats for brunch and lunch with freshly baked cakes made in house - and it all tastes so much better surrounded by the plants, the parquet floor, and the beautiful tiling.

Sheaf View

The Sheaf View is what many would call a proper pub. Much larger than it would seem from the outside, you'll find a real mix of folks from hardened ale fanatics to climbers and hipsters. Always with a great atmosphere, you'll find it easy to get to meet new folks here and you'll wonder why all pubs can't be this good.

Brothers Arms

The Brothers Arms is a focal point of the Heeley social scene, with folks from all around making the trip to this fantastic pub during the day (especially in summer for the beer garden) and for their evening events featuring live music amongst other cultural shenanigans.

Heeley Development Trust

For over two decades now, Heeley Trust has been working to improve public spaces, secure buildings and other assets for the community and deliver all kinds of projects for the people who live here and beyond.
