Social Enterprising the Transitions Ahead is a powerful 50-minute documentary exploring how Sheffield’s social enterprises are leading systemic change in response to the interconnected social, economic, and environmental challenges of our time.
Commissioned by the Sheffield Social Enterprise Network (SSEN) and produced by local social enterprise Opus Films, this film showcases the innovative work of social entrepreneurs in Sheffield—pioneering inclusive employment, circular economy models, and community-led solutions that challenge traditional economic narratives and offer a vision for a fairer, more sustainable future.
Guided by Terry Murphy of the Sheffield Social Enterprise Network (SSEN), the film takes us on a journey across Sheffield to meet the change-makers shaping the city’s future.
At The Green Estate, Roz Davies introduces us to their work in transforming urban spaces. In Union St Café and Ecclesall Woods, James Lock of Opus shares insights into storytelling and social change. At Food Works' Distribution Hub and Norton Nurseries, Rene Meijer reveals their innovative approach to food sustainability. In Aspire Sheffield at SOAR Works, Emma Woods of Flourish Economics explores new economic models. At SADACCA, Olivier Tsemo highlights community-led economic regeneration, while Ola Fagbohun of Zest of You shares her perspective on well-being and Social Enterprise. Finally, at The Gardeners Rest Community Pub, Jamie Bristow reflects on the role of inner development in shaping systemic change.
Through these encounters, the film uncovers the impact of social enterprise in Sheffield and beyond.
