Four Ethels from Hathersage walk

A challenging walk in the Dark Peak to tick off four of the ‘Ethels’ on a Circular Walk From Hathersage with CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire.

Ethels are the name given to the highest 95 points in the Peak District. Higger Tor, White Path Moss, Stanage/Stanedge Pole and High Neb are visited, on this circular walk starting and finishing in Hathersage.

A moderate walk along small roads, farm tracks, mud, woodland, open moorland and footpaths – there are stiles and gates and road crossings and challenging uphill stretches

An opportunity to learn more about the life and work of Ethel Haythornthwaite, the ‘Ethels’ challenge app and the recently released biography of Ethel too.

The walk will be led by Tomo Thompson, the CEO of CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire

  • Public transport: 09:14 train from Sheffield to Hathersage, arrive 09:32. 08:46 bus 272 from Interchange, arrive 09:22. Return trains run at 46 minutes past the hour, and buses at 16:16. or 257a at 16:39

  • Proper hillwalking clothing, footwear and equipment required.
