Festival of the Outdoors

A month-long celebration of The Outdoor City

Sheffield is the city where nature and culture intertwine. As the 4th biggest city in the country we have culture galore, but when you combine that with 61% greenspace and some of the best walking, climbing, biking and running you could possibly wish for (along with 5 rivers running through the city) you'll see we have a pretty important relationship with the outdoors.

And so every March the city celebrates the days getting longer, drier, and warmer so that we can enjoy the unique place that is Sheffield, by hosting the Festival of the Outdoors.

The Outdoor City teams up with everything from large scale international sporting events to small scale community gatherings; from photo walks to some of the worlds hardest bouldering problems; from outdoor markets to film festivals.

Scroll for some of this year's highlights below or see the full list of events here.

Want your event to be part of FOTO 23?

Every year, as well as listing all events on a dedicated section of this website, we produce a large format printed guide which gets distributed throughout the city.

The Festival of the Outdoors is about community as much as it's about world leading athletes - so if you're putting on a wellbeing event for new parents going on a buggy walk, running a photography competition, or putting on some great cultural activities - please let us know by filling out a form and submitting your event.

Please just make sure you include in the title 'FOTO23' so we know to tag it.
